Description
Bullet Chilli, also known as "Green Bullet," is a small, stout, and highly pungent pepper. It gets its name from its short, rounded shape that tapers to a point, resembling a bullet. These chillies are known for their intense, sharp heat and a slightly fruity, crisp finish.
Culinary Versatility
In Indian cooking, Bullet Chillies are the go to for adding maximum heat with minimal volume. They are perfect for tempering (Tadka) in dals and curries, or for making spicy green chutneys. Because of their thick walls, they also hold up well when slit and stuffed with masala or used in pickles (Achaar).
Nutritional Benefits
These chillies are a powerhouse of Capsaicin, which is known to boost metabolism and act as a natural pain reliever. They are incredibly rich in Vitamin C (even more than oranges by weight) and Vitamin A, which support immune health and glowing skin. Storage & Care
Keep them in a paper bag or a breathable container in the refrigerator's crisper drawer. They can stay fresh for up to 2 weeks. To keep them even longer, remove the green stalks (stems) before storing, as the stems are often the first part to develop moisture and mold.
Pro-Tip: If you find the heat too intense, remove the seeds and the white inner membranes before cooking; this is where the majority of the capsaicin is stored. Always remember to wash your hands thoroughly with soap after handling these, as the oils can cause a burning sensation on the skin or eyes!
