Description
Drumstick, or Shevga/Moringa, is a long, slender, and ridged pod with a tough outer skin and a soft, pulpy interior filled with pea sized seeds. It offers a unique, earthy flavour somewhat like a cross between asparagus and green beans and is prized for the savoury, "umami" juice found inside its fibrous walls.
Culinary Versatility
A foundational ingredient in South Indian cuisine, Drumsticks are essential for Sambar and Avial. In North India, they are used in Drumstick Masala Sabzi or hearty kadhis. You don't eat the woody skin; instead, the pods are cut into lengths, simmered until tender, and the flavourful pulp and seeds are "zipped" out with the teeth. The tender leaves (Moringa) are also edible and often sautéed with garlic and coconut.

Often called a "superfood," Drumsticks are incredibly rich in Vitamin C and Calcium. They are widely known for their anti-inflammatory properties and their ability to help regulate blood sugar levels.
